The Laboratory of Dr. Grey - Chapter Seven

Chapter Seven     Once they both passed, white sheets were draped over them and they were rolled out into the hall. The men rolled them down the main hall and out the glass double doors where a truck was awaiting their arrival. They loaded the bodies and the doctor in charge climbing into the cab with the driver. The diver started the truck and he commented, “That was quicker than usual.”     The white coated man replied, “Yes, they were already weak. Don’t go to the fire pit; take us out of here were that tiny town used to be.”     The driver protested, explaining his reasons. “But Dr. Mendaf order them to be burned and I’ll get in trouble if he finds—”     “I don’t care what he said!” the man interrupted sharply. “Nothing good ever happens at that fire pit, and I won’t to risk my life for these scum bags. Take us out of town!”     The driver shrugged and a stubborn silence fell between them as they b...

The Laboratory of Dr. Grey - Chapter Six

Chapter Six     Jolting forward in her narrow white bed, Roxanne screamed struggling against the nylon restrains which pinned her in a laying position to the bed. She felt something tight around her neck, choking her as she fought the restraints. Her heart raced as she looked around wildly. She was in a cold sweat and breathing hard. She heard herself screaming uncontrollably. “Get me out! Get me out of that place!”      A couple of people in white coats rushed to her side and they were saying things in a soothing voice but she didn’t hear them. Frantically her eyes darted around the room, trying to distinguish shapes and colors in the darkness. There seemed to be quite a few men in white coats and beside her, to the left, was another bed like her’s with someone on it. She couldn’t see who it was because there were white coated doctors surrounding them as well. Tugging wildly against the restrains, she fought against every hand that held her do...

The Laboratory of Dr. Grey - Chapter Five

Chapter Five     Roxanne’s eyelids fluttered open and she squinted in the brightness. Blinking a couple of times it took a few seconds for her to realize what had happened. Then everything came crashing back to her like a heavy weight. Everything that they had done, everything that they had seen, everything that they had experienced, wasn’t real. Did that mean that Damian was fake as well? Or was she the one who was fake? Where were they dumped this time anyway?     Sitting up, she glanced around her, taking everything in, once her eyes adjusted. They were in another room which was completely white, reflecting the day light that flooded through the windows to her left. Also on her left was Damian. He sat up at about the same time she did, and they both observed silently for a moment. There was nothing in the white glamorous room. It was a fair size, with a tile floor and a white smooth ceiling. There were no lights except the natural sunshine, which...

The Laboratory of Dr. Grey - Chapter Four

Chapter Four As she was speaking the wall began to rotate back into place. Damian jumped forward and slipped into the hall with her just as the cement wall ground back into place.     They were trapped.     Roxanne stared with her mouth open. She stuttered her apology, “I’m sorry, I guess I shouldn’t have done that.”     Sighing Damian leaned against the wall, then said, “That’s alright, I guess it saved us from having to choose. Come on, let’s see what’s on the other side of that door.”     Their foot steps echoed as they clanked on the metallic floor. There were no light bulbs in the hall, the very walls seemed to glow from an unknown source. The door was about twenty yards from the opening in the wall and they soon covered the distance. They stopped before the door and looked at each other for a second. Damian broke the small silence by saying, “I don’t know what lays on the other side of this door, but I promise to...

The Laboratory of Dr. Grey - Chapter Three

Chapter Three Roxanne read the paper over a few times then glanced at the key in her hand. A key to room one hundred and twenty-three, and a note biding her to go to room fifty-seven, the maintenance room. Which should she choose? Come to think of it, she wasn’t even sure where room one hundred and twenty-three was. Should she go consult Dr. Grey? He would know where that room was. No, he was experimenting. Who, or what, was this Darkness character?     After more thought she concluded that the only option was to go to room fifty-seven and figure out what was going on. But what ever was happening, she didn’t have a very good feeling about it. Something wasn’t quite right about any of this.     She headed down the stairs and realized that the oversized mouse was gone, and that it seemed to have left right after she started checking rooms. That also wasn’t like the mice, they were very friendly creatures— one of the most friendly things Dr. Grey had in...

The Laboratory of Dr. Grey - Chapter Two

Chapter Two Deep in a dark, untouched forest, hidden in the middle of a wide valley, which was engulfed on either side by dense trees and undergrowth, was a stone laboratory. Most of the laboratory was sunken deep under the earth and only a wing showed above ground. No one had set foot in that daunting forest for nearly a hundred years. How is this possible you ask? I shall get to that later, and you will understand. The laboratory belonged to the mysterious Dr. Grey. No one knows when he started (or arrived at) the laboratory. The dark forest surrounding the cement building had a horrible reputation, and it was well earned too. Anyone who ever went into it, never came back out again. And I know why. There are maimed and strange creatures out there. They were said to be once just normal animals but then they were turned into monsters by a mad scientist. I personally believe that that mad scientist is the Dr. Grey. But enough about tall and unlikely tales. I have t...

The Laboratory of Dr. Grey - Chapter One

In the years to come, there may be several versions of how this tale unfolds. But thi s I assure you is the correct one, as unbelievable as it may seem. After the Great War in 2184 A.D. there was very little of civilized life in what used to be called The United States of America. There was great gathering of people who wanted to get their old lives back, and maintain what the rest of the world had lost: Civilization. So that is when the idea formed to create a world and government system of their own, much like the world that was oft told of in legend . This system included Sectors that would provide a few essential assets to be distributed to the other Sectors, with a main Sector in the middle to organize and ship the goods. So the idea for Vallent was born. They chose six Sectors in all: Lamperi, which means glittering: Aspectu, which means favored: Effextrix, which means producers: Agris, which means farms: Parias, which means outcast: and last of all Despertai o, w...
