The Laboratory of Dr. Grey - Chapter One

In the years to come, there may be several versions of how this tale unfolds. But thi s I assure you is the correct one, as unbelievable as it may seem. After the Great War in 2184 A.D. there was very little of civilized life in what used to be called The United States of America. There was great gathering of people who wanted to get their old lives back, and maintain what the rest of the world had lost: Civilization. So that is when the idea formed to create a world and government system of their own, much like the world that was oft told of in legend . This system included Sectors that would provide a few essential assets to be distributed to the other Sectors, with a main Sector in the middle to organize and ship the goods. So the idea for Vallent was born. They chose six Sectors in all: Lamperi, which means glittering: Aspectu, which means favored: Effextrix, which means producers: Agris, which means farms: Parias, which means outcast: and last of all Despertai o, which mean

Now We Are Free - Chapter Ten

The Paper “Now about you two,” Zi was excitedly spilling out info as if she had been dying to tell them ever since they first implemented the plan. “It all started with Tav. He was with us since the beginning and has helped many escape. The bullet he shot Rodger Bently with was real. But the wound was never supposed to be fatal. We lost Rodger five days ago. He was a loyal friend to us all. “But we hold on to the fact that greater things are at work. He gave you the paper, which you read and now look where we are! Because you saw the paper, we kept an eye on you, thanks to Tech. We took out a few tag-alongs, and kept tabs on you through the city. When you went to Mister Master’s, we knew you were serious about getting out. “But here’s the best part of all, none of this would have been possible if it weren’t for the Greatest Agent. If he hadn’t had the guts to defy the agency, even though it meant certain death, and if he hadn’t utterly defeated the agency, even t

Now We Are Free - Chapter Nine

Those of Legend     “Wait! Please stop!” the female voice called after them. Something in the tone of her cry made them halt in their retreat. She sounded desperate, not threatening. As soon as she saw Tav and Dez stop, the girl jogged up to them. They both instinctively shied away a few steps. The girl slowed down, a bit and held her hands away from her sides, as if to indicate that she was unarmed and not out to harm them. But both were still as wary. She let out a happy sigh, flipping the hood back from her face. She closed the distance between them while they stared completely surprised, taking in the details her familiar countenance. Her eyes were dark and sparkling with life, her face round, yet pleasant, was glowing with joy. A smile shined with warmth and genuine happiness that lit up the rest of her. A shock of naturally curly locks framed her features to completion.     This was Zi. The legendary Zi and Fix who had been “killed” by the agency over some di

Mister Master     Under two hours later, Tav was effortlessly picking the lock to Mayla’s front door. She had just stepped out and opened the window for Dez and Tav to get outfitted. It wasn’t before long that Dez had picked out various out fits, from her business slacks and dress shirt to T-shirts and jeans with plaid flannels to go over them. Tav had picked out some average civilian clothing. Both had chosen some ragged dirty articles as well. They were in and out in thirty minutes, leaving their agent uniforms hanging in the closet. They left everything from the agency, right down to their boots , in case of tracking devices. Well, everything except their agency identity cards. They needed the pi ctures off them for their new aliases.     They were off to get new identities when trouble started. They began to see shadow agents around them, following, checking up on them. Tav took to leading them, trying to shake some of them. They knew they had to separate soon

Now We Are Free - Chapter Seven

No Turning Back     Tav halted and yanked her in front of himself, his back to the elevator. His expression went to normal in an instant and he whispered urgently to her, “Sorry about that, but she was listening. Mayla is Agent 402, a shadow agent. In fact she’s in the elevator right now. I’m going to shove you over the edge, give me a scream for effects, and you’re going to detach your line so that it hooks on the ledge below us. You move around to the other side, out of sight. I’ll come down when it’s safe. Okay, ready?”     Dez nodded, trying to keep up with what he was saying amid her emotions. He lifted her to the side and gave her a gentle but convincing push. She toppled over the edge and didn’t need to fake a scream. She hated falling like this, it scared the wits out of her every time. She scrambled for her release mechanism and watched in relief as the line sailed out and caught. She jerked as the line tightened and slammed against the building. Impact hi

Everything Falls to Pieces     That was all Dez caught before she had bolted out of hearing. It was awfully hard to run in flats. She darted around corners and through halls, stuffing to the jeweled clutch into her own purse. Oh no! the elevator! Wrong way, they would be coming up those! She skidded to a stop and smashed one of the buttons to go down. A ding sounded from the elevator beside her just as her elevator doors rolled open. She dashed in and rammed the down button. But too late!     Six burly security guards poured out of the elevator next to hers and one caught his hand in her doors just as the were about to close. The doors rolled back to reveal a very trapped secretary. Dez couldn’t fake herself out of this one. It was obvious who she was. She couldn’t even give them a name without being found out. The one on her badge was already taken. She had failed miserably! The agency was going to hear about this, and if the agency could bail her out of jail for f

Scratching By... Barely     Oh no! This was quickly spiraling out of hand! Think fast! “Hang on, fellas! I’m a friend of Kelly’s. She called me and asked me to bring her her ID.”     They both looked suspicious.     “Look,” she laughed and looked as playful as she could under the circumstances, “I was just curious if I could get in as her. You know, a lot of people think we look alike. I suppose it might have worked if it wasn’t for such astute doormen.” What was she doing?! They obviously weren’t in for the flattery technique. Change gears before you lose them! “So, can you let me in now? I’d like to give her this myself.”     “Erm, no I’ll have to take that inside.”     “Oh,” she looked disappointed, which wasn’t far from the real feelings. “I was really hoping,” she approached this carefully, “that I could tell her myself...”     “Tell her what?”     “Well, I suppose I could tell Kelly when she gets home tonight, but it’s kind of urgent... and I wouldn’

The Mission     The next thing she knew was Tav shaking her awake and gently reminding her of her mission. As if she had forgotten. She was rather cross with him, though he had no clue why.     She clamored off the top bunk, and Tav kindly inquired, as was his custom, “Did you sleep alright last night?”     “What do you think?” she snapped at him. “It was only my last night as an agent of any standing!”     “Dez, you don’t know that. I bet you’ll do great.”     “Yeah, sure.” She wrestled into her dark, tight fitting field uniform. “No need to to be polite, we both know you can’t wait for me to be gone. One less thing to bother about.”     “Dez! Why would you say something like that? What did I do to make you think that?”     She clenched her jaw tighter. “If you’re so supportive all of a sudden, then where were you last night? Not so much as an ounce of support then!”     “Is that why you’re so angry at me? I’ll have you know that my time was spent attempti

Now We Are Free - Chapter Three

The Threat of the Committe e     Dez stared out the window into the black night. Rain splattered against the round pane and trickled down, finding it’s way to the cement sill, then eventually to the muddy ground far below. City lights blinked and winked in the distance and there were a few sections glowing a dull orange to the left and right even further away. Everything in between was black, no shapes or other colors, just a dark blanket. During the day, she had quite the view of the cities and countryside surrounding the mountain from her small cell, which was one of the highest in the compound. If she looked down she could see the rest of the cement building sprawling over a good portion of the wooded mountain.     In her hand, Dez held the paper that the man had carried in his suit. It was open and she had read it twice and was now contemplating the meaning of its contents. She stared out the round window, though she wasn’t admiring the view. In fact, she was

No Escaping     Twenty minutes later the pair were perched on the roof of a tall skyscraper thirty blocks away from the office building. Twinkling city lights reflected off the wet glass and pavement below. The sounds of muffled traffic monotonously filtered up between the skyscrapers, the dull drone reaching to the skies. A steady cold wind cut through the night with the smell of rain to come hinting in its bitter gusts. Tav had guided them there in silence.     Till now.     He whirled to confront her, sliding the mask down from his face to reveal a firm jaw and a rounded nose. “What were you doing in there?” he demanded.     She also slid her mask down, showing pursed red lips. She glared at him with sudden vengeance. “I was doing my job! Why were you there?”     “So that’s how you take care of a job?” He retorted angrily, avoiding her question. “You’ve done over a dozen jobs like this, what came over you?!”     She paused, and then fell silent for a s

Now We Are Free - Chapter One

The Man in the Navy Blue Suit     The muzzle of the pistol pointed directly at the back of the kneeling man’s head. The hand holding the pistol was unmoving, as cold as ice. The face of the holder was even more so. The man being held at gunpoint shook slightly, but not out of fear. He shifted nervously before his captor, his body language hesitant, but he stared her straight in the eye. He looked to be a business man of sorts, wearing a navy blue suit and scarlet tie. His hands were upraised. His lips moved though no sound came through them. The air was stagnant and heavy with tension. Both their hearts beat faster and faster, sure that the other could hear the quick thrumming through the dead air.     It would only be a few minutes before someone would see them, they couldn’t hide long in this glass office building. She stared coldly back and was slightly perturbed, this man wasn’t like the others, he wasn’t flinching. What was he doing? He would glance up to the ceiling while

First Post!!!

Hi Friend! Thanks for reading my first post!!! First off, I’d like to tell you a little bit about me. I’m an aspiring author, with several novels under my belt ( a few published on amazon here ), and too many stuck in my head! I also enjoy outdoorsy things like hiking, backpacking and hanging amongst the trees in one of my many hammocks. 😁 And of course, I practically live with my nose in some book, or glued to my laptop slaving away at the latest adventure in an undiscovered realm. It’s a lot of hard work, but I love every second I’m holed away in some different world. In case you haven’t guessed already, I write mostly fantasy and fiction. What this blog is going to be about... (mostly) Stories! I’ll post short stories, some excerpts from new novels, and some updates on the progress of current writing projects. Disclaimer! Other random things might show up too! Like books that I’ve enjoyed, some sneak peak looks into the world behind the story, and a few dilemmas I’ve enc
